What is an Additional Skill Identifier (ASI)?

An Additional Skill Identifier (ASI) is specifically designed to provide Soldiers with qualifications that expand their capabilities within a particular Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). This identifier allows the military to recognize and document specialized skills that Soldiers may possess beyond their primary duties. By having an ASI, a Soldier may be assigned to roles or tasks that require these additional skills, making them more versatile in their operational capabilities.

For example, an ASI may indicate a Soldier's proficiency in a technical skill, completion of a certain training course, or expertise in a particular field that adds value to their unit’s mission. The identification of these skills enhances operational effectiveness and allows units to leverage their personnel's qualifications more effectively.
